On the road again

The second leg of my travels has taken me to Salento, Colombia. I took a bus from Bogotá to Armenia, then a half hour cab ride to Salento. The bus was surprisingly comfortable and i managed to get about 5 hours of sleep (out of an 8 hour over-night drive). Thank you bus driver! -Guy who can't sleep on buses/planes. The taxi ride, on the other hand, was quite the opposite. The driver was agressive, but that is to be expected. The problem, at least the first one, was that 5 minutes into the ride and he pulls over on a random side street, parks and honks his horn. I couldn't help but imagine the worst. *beepbeep* *beepbeep* finally a clipboard with papers on a string is lowered from a window i can't see. I crane my neck out and a woman in a business suit is at the other end. The driver tries to explain why we're there stating that without this paperwork he'd get pulled over. I still don't get it... Oh, Colombia and your crazy rules! Later while speeding down the road, a pair of dogs run out into the street (dogs down here apparently double as public statues, doormats, alley patrolmen, sidewalk security, school bus/shuttle for fleas and speed bumps). The taxi slammed on the brakes, but hit the dog. It had had survived and dashed back across the street seemingly unharmed, thankfully! The driver says, "I honked!" >:[ Anyway, i've made it to Salento. More photos to come.
