I just met someone that caught the Travel Bug. And no, it's not what you think. It's an actual, tangible object. This one in particular is a stuffed-animal shaped like a lobster. The Travel Bug is like an added bonus to an international game of scavenger hunt. This is how it works. The game instructions, and clues are found at geocaching.com. People can search for any number of hidden treasures placed strategically throughout cities all over the world. There are a series of clues to lead you to a special, out of the way place where you would find something like a tupperware with trinkets. Upon finding the treasure, the person would then take a trinket from the box, and leave one of their own. In very rare cases, someone might find a Travel Bug. This bug is tagged with a dog tag and serial number (official geocaching.com stuff), and upon finding it, said finder would report it on the website and then deposit it in a new far-off place to be found by another traveler. Each bug has quite a history, and can be followed on geocaching.com. Can't wait to try to find one on my own!
