A 20 minute taxi ride from the airport, and I have arrived in La Candelaria, the historic core of Bogotá. The taxi dropped me off in front of the hostal I had researched, Hostal Platypus. In that short ride I was shown sights such as the American Embassy, the local mall, the high-rise building/financial district. Alvaro, the taxi driver, points out Cerro de Monserrate, a church perched high up on the mountain that requires a teleferico (an air cable-car) ride to get there. I'm definitely checking that out!
On my first stroll through the neighborhood, i found a small restaurant/bakery and sat down to enjoy a platano leaf wrapped tamal. Yuummm. Iit was filled with a corn and garbanzo masa, chicken and egg :)
